That's right people, ice skating in Vienna, Austria!!!! Erika and I were invited to go with our host mother and another host mother ice skating last Monday so we decided to go and I am so glad that we did!! The other host mom brought her host daughter, Kayla, who is in our program, and her actual daughter Teresa. While we went with our host mom and our host sister Shobha. Kayla's mom use to be an ice skater (so she was good to go needless to say), I have skated enough to get around, but Erika could not skate at all. So, to start out I held |
Erika's hand while she figured it out and tried to giver her some tips with Shubha. By the end of the night Kayla was showing some of the tricks she knew and Erika skated around all by herself!!! It was a great night and I cannot wait to have more great times with all the people here with AHA.
As for getting money, it was 3.50 Euros to get in past 6 and then another 4 euros to rent the skates. So in all, it was an inexpensive night.
The rink was really awesome though because it was located in the middle of four buildings, one being the entrance, and it was in an open court yard sort of setting. I was literally skating under the stars, all the while being in the middle of the 2nd district, or down town Vienna. This is not the only rink like this either. If I understand correctly there is another rink that is in front of an old castle-like building which is also uncovered. then Karin, our host mother, told us that they also offer ice skating lessons on the weekends. Not only that, but if you go on the weekend one can watch figure skaters work on dancing together there as well. Which we did see one couple dance skating and it was beautiful!!! In short, if you get the chance to ice skate out under the stars in Vienna you should do it!
